Michael Reiter

CISO

Rolls-Royce Power Systems AG

Cybersecurity is a passion of Michael's and has been with him for his entire professional life. As a seasoned cybersecurity executive with over 25 years of experience, he has been at the forefront of technological and conceptual developments in the IT security industry and has often been an active influencer. In his earlier years as a security integrator and consultant, he gained a deep insight into the structures and processes of companies of different sizes and in different industries. This not only allowed him to continuously expand his practical experience and develop and refine his extensive expertise, but also gave him a broad overview of the various needs and approaches to security and compliance in the corporate world.

As CISO for one of the world's largest retailers, he built and developed an information security organization from scratch and managed a centralized ISMS with ISO teams in 28 countries. As a founding member and later head of the KRITIS industry working group for food retail, he was instrumental in the development and accreditation of the first industry-specific security standard (B3S) for food retail in Germany.

In his current role as CISO of an international product and solution provider for sustainable powertrain and energy solutions in both commercial and regulatory environments, he is responsible for the structured definition and implementation of governance and compliance issues in the context of cyber and information security, as well as the active management and implementation of prevention and defense measures supported by advanced security technologies and systems.

He also leads the modernization, evolution, and operation of the global IT infrastructure as part of the digital transformation, and drives the organizational development of product security within R&D. As an advisory board member of start-up companies in the cybersecurity environment, Michael supports the founders with his experience in strategic direction, market, business development, and technical or industry-specific issues.

Michael is motivated by the concept of Cyber Resilience by Design, which he describes as “the ability of a product, a service, or even an organization to be adequately protected against current cyber threats and, at the same time, to have created the prerequisites to be able to respond to changes in an appropriate, effective and efficient manner.”
