Alexander Pabst

Deputy Group CISO

Allianz SE

Alex combines a unique background of technical and top-management experience. His experience from working at McKinsey and deep technical understanding from his roles at Cisco and Intel, combined with an MBA from INSEAD, allow him to not only work closely with technical teams, but also with boards and investors.

As the Deputy Group CISO of Allianz SE, he oversees the global Information Security Strategy, Project Portfolio and Teams for Allianz Group, covering more than $300 million in annual information security spend and a global team of 700+ FTE. Alex established a global security platform, including people, processes, and technology for the group, ensuring end-to-end visibility and ability to respond. Additionally, he has worked closely with the group and local boards to build resilience by conducting trainings, regular cyber simulations, and driving awareness activities across the entire organization.

Before joining Allianz, Alex worked for Security Research Labs, a boutique cyber-consultancy, and McKinsey, where he worked with clients across industries and geographies to assess and improve their cybersecurity standing. He was elected one of the global cyber security experts for McKinsey.

Alex has co-authored a book on DevSecOps and still enjoys taking part in Hackathons and CTFs when time allows. He is an angel investor and mentor for cybersecurity startups. He is currently based in Munich but has lived and worked in six countries over the past 20 years. In 2018, he took part in a sailing race across the Atlantic and, even though his team didn’t win, it was an experience he’ll never forget.
