Data Driven: Lacework and Snowflake Partner to Supercharge Security Operations

With more business-critical data and applications moving to the cloud, security of multi-cloud environments has become paramount. From meeting compliance mandates to detecting zero-day threats and uncovering vulnerabilities, organizations of all sizes are finding they need a clear view of, and an enabling security foundation for, their cloud activities no matter where they occur, including in container and Kubernetes environments.

Building on the mounting consensus that security is a data problem, Lacework and Snowflake today announced a partnership designed to build confidence in businesses’ cloud operations and to break down barriers between groups tasked with improving business operations and those tasked with protecting the organization. The two companies will bring together business and security intelligence into a single stream, enabling customers to more quickly see critical impact such as:

  • Gaining flexibility with custom analytics. By bringing together cloud security findings from Lacework with other security data in Snowflake, customers can apply complex security policies and service licensing agreements to identify the issues that matter most to the organization.
  • Power dashboards that serve a broader audience. Cloud security has many stakeholders, and organizations can build dashboards with the combined data that provide all stakeholders with an actionable view as broad or as filtered as needed.
  • Responding to incidents more cost-effectively. Responding to a breach often requires fast access to a year or more of normalized cloud activity logs. Lacework uncovers valuable cloud security data and correlations that aid in incident investigations, and Snowflake’s unique architecture supports efficient petabyte-scale investigations with no retention limits.

Beating Risk with Visibility, Insights

Lacework is the data-driven security platform for the cloud built natively on top of Snowflake. Through intelligent automation and the company’s patented machine learning engine, Polygraph&174;, Lacework processes tens of billions of security data points and surfaces the handful of security events that matter most. This visibility gives overloaded and under-resourced security and developer organizations the insights they need to remediate the most pressing issues quickly, without impacting the agility of the business.

By coupling these capabilities with Snowflake’s data cloud, joint customers like Clari get end-to-end visibility into what’s happening across their cloud data, including detecting threats, vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, and unusual activity.

“Clari was among the first to recognize the power of combining Lacework’s security intelligence with Snowflake’s business intelligence,” said Steve Lukose, Director of Security Engineering at Clari. “Together, we created dashboards that enable us to track business and security metrics efficiently across all of our workloads. This enables our security and DevOps teams to prioritize their work, facilitating consistent delivery on service level objectives from an operational and risk perspective.”

Recipe for Success

Today’s partnership news continues to expand the customer benefits of a Lacework-Snowlake solution, as well as validate Lacework’s overall success. In late 2020, for example, Snowflake participated in Lacework’s $525 million Series C financing, led overall by Sutter Hill Ventures. And in the first quarter of 2021, Lacework reported 3x revenue growth, 5x increase in new customers, and an almost 300% employee growth year-on-year. This growth has continued through the second quarter as Lacework attracted new customers across segments and expansion into 10 new countries, including Australia and New Zealand.

Lacework is also a founding member of the Powered by Snowflake program that launched in June 2021. The program is designed to accelerate the delivery of differentiated applications on Snowflake by supporting developers across all stages of the application journey in Snowflake’s Data Cloud. Today there are 100+ ‘Powered by’ partners, including founding members BlackRock, Lacework, OppLoans, and Observe.
